Starting a Christian Women’s Book Club
This spring, I started getting the itch to read more classics and good modern fiction. I wanted to steer clear of modern romances and spiced content and find books of a richer, more meaningful stock. But I am also a newer mom, so finding the time to read and attend to meatier fiction can sometimes be challenging. And thus the idea for a book club was born. It seemed like the perfect external motivator for sticking to a monthly reading cadence, while also giving me the chance to research good, clean fictional reads and then share and discuss those reads amongst friends.
The book club will have 3 guiding questions that will inform both the books chosen for the club and the conversations had at each month’s meeting. The first question is “What does this reveal about the truth?”, the second is “What does the book say about goodness?”, and the third is “What in this book is beautiful?”. As we look for the true, the good, and the beautiful in each book, my hope is that they will point us to God and our heavenly home. I don’t want to make the books or the discussion overly didactic, but instead want to (hopefully) subtly weave these concepts into leisurely conversations on good books. We are not-very-creatively calling this the TGB Book Club, and it is designed for Christian women looking to deepen their faith while reading great fiction with friends.
We started with our first book in July, and below you’ll find our list of monthly books through the end of the year. As the book club progresses I plan to continue to share the books we’re reading, and any reviews I find the time to write. You’ll also find our list of discussion questions for the first few monthly meetings below. I hope it inspires you to grab a few friends, make some coffee, and get reading!
